Key Stage 2 Curricular Overview
In Years 3 to 6 there is an increasing emphasis on specialist teaching. In the early stages of Key Stage Two the majority of lessons are taught by the class teachers. However, by Year 6, specialist teaching is used for Science, ICT, Music, Drama, French, Art, Games and PE.
The National Literacy and Numeracy Frameworks are used as the basis for English and Mathematics teaching and the children are examined in the National Curriculum Key Stage Standard Attainment Tests (SATs).
The following subjects are taught throughout Key Stage Two:
- Religious Education
- Games and Physical Education
- Design Technology
- Information and Communication Technology
- Thinking Skills
- Personal, Health, Social and Citizenship Education
Pupils in Key Stage 2 are given homework approximately three times per week, with each assignment lasting 20 minutes per night. Homework includes spelling, mathematics, literacy and special projects.
