Disney Netball Tour, Disneyland Paris. April 2017.

In April 44 pupils in years 6-10, accompanied by four members of staff, travelled to Disneyland Paris to compete in the International Junior Netball Festival. This is rapidly becoming the premier European event in the junior netball calendar, with 85 teams taking part this year. The Festival combines highly competitive netball tournaments with international players' coaching masterclasses. In partnership with England Netball the tournament is open to teams at Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 age groups.

In partnership with England Netball, the coaching clinics and masterclasses are led by world-class players and coaches. These inspirational and passionate players and coaches are all involved in the game at the highest level.

The aims of the clinics and masterclasses are to combine both individual and team development, including defending, attacking, ball skills, movement skills, Centre Court play, Defending Circle play, Attacking Circle play, tactical and strategic play and strength and conditioning. Pupils had the opportunity of enjoying coaching through technically accurate demonstrations from elite players, who are themselves beneficiaries of high performance coaching.

They all played really well and enjoyed some highly competitive matches. The results are as follows:

  • Year 8 lost their semi-final to the eventual winners of the U14 tournament 9-8. They were winning all the way through and finished 4th out of 55 teams
  • U12 finished 4th out of 20 teams
  • U12B finished 6th in the plate competition
  • Year 9 finished 6th out of 55 teams
  • U14C  finished 6th in the U14 plate competition
  • U16 finished 6th in the plate competition

Congratulations to year 6 Solely who got the fair play award for the whole of the festival and all it's players! There were 850 netball players (85 teams).

The team stayed at Hotel Cheyenne, a short shuttle bus from the Disney Park where they enjoyed free time and taking advantage of the many rides and attractions on offer. Thank you to staff Miss Davis, Mrs Harvey, Miss McDowell and Miss Dodds for making this a brilliant and memorable trip.
