Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition

A team of four pupils, Luca (Y11), Trinity (Y10), Joshua (Y9) and Julia (Y9) accompanied by Dr Turner and Mrs Gibbs, went to the University of Hull to battle against other schools in Hull and East Riding heat of the Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition.

This national competition, aimed at 14 to 16 year olds, presents pupils with the opportunity to use chemistry in a fun way outside of lessons, and offers a valuable and exciting opportunity for our pupils to demonstrate their knowledge of practical chemistry.

The pupils undertook a quiz, which was a series of table-top challenges on the topic of general chemistry, and then a hands-on chemistry practical test, which was conducted in the University’s teaching laboratories.

The four pupils from Hull Collegiate School won, which means that they go on to represent the Hull and East Riding in the national finals in March.

We wish them many congratulations and the best of luck for the national finals!
