HCS celebrates Roald Day 2019

Roald Dahl (1916–1990) was one of the world’s most imaginative, successful and loved storytellers. His stories are currently available in 59 languages.

Last week we celebrated Roald Dahl Day with children from Nursery through to Senior School. Mr Henderson started the celebrations early with a Year 8 and 9  Matilda themed assembly on Thursday. Students read a passage from the book and explained why creativity and imagination are important. We watched the cake scene and five students were rewarded with a chocolate cake baked by cook!

Year 5 and 6 listened to The Chocolate Room from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and designed their own Willy Wonka chocolate bar. Ava designed a sweet and sour bar and won a Roald Dahl stationery set.

Year 6 listened to Boy, an autobiography of Dahl’s life, and redesigned the book cover.

Year 2 listened to a chapter from The Twits and then drew horrible things in Mr Twit’s beard, with the winner gaining a prize.

Jasmine in nursery won a prize for answering questions on The Enormous Crocodile.

Abigail in Year 9 won a prize for designing a book cover that Matilda would like to read.

A scrumdiddlyumptious day!
