Hockey success for Year 8 girls Ashlyn and Ruby who have been selected for England Hockey Performance Centre

Year 8 pupils Ashlyn and Ruby were spotted through representing Humberside Junior Academy Centre to attend U14 regional trials, where they were successful. They both attended an assessment at Weetwood on Saturday 8th June and we are delighted to confirm they have been selected to attend the England Hockey Performance Centre based in Leeds.

Performance Centres are strategically located across England to maximise opportunity and player development. Through this model England Hockey want to move talent development to a higher level.

Performance Centres aim to:

  • Develop an oversupply of high calibre players for National Age Group Squads
  • Provide frequent, exceptionally high quality contact time for a targeted group of players
  • Provide appropriate competition to support player development

Ruby has also reached the same accolade in football and has been selected to play for Leeds United U16's.

More sporting success in the ISA Championships:

After the U13 won the ISA North Championships and U14 were Humberside Championships we were contacted by David Brereton who runs the U13 North East Regional Hockey Team. He had seen the report about the girls’ success at Humberside trials and at various tournaments. David emailed the school and asked if we had any talented U13s to send to nominate for trials. We nominated 3 players; Zoe, Bethan and Ashlyn to attend, with Ashlyn being successful. She will be attending a series of training sessions, as part of the squad and will play in the National tournament in July. This is a tournament that our region won last year, so we wish Ashlyn the best of luck later this month.
