Team Uganda 2017
In July a group of 17 pupils and three members of staff travelled to the Kanungu district of Uganda in order to teach the children and take much needed supplies. The Kanungu district is one of the most deprived in Uganda and therefore they truly treasure the time that we spend with them and the supplies we take.
Whilst we are out there we visited five different schools, ranging from primary to secondary. They spent most of their time visiting our partner school: Great Lakes High School. As a school, we are proud to support the GLHS, the children truly value their education, as do their families, for whom an educated child is a means to escape the cycle of poverty.
The school combines academia with an emphasis on science and agricultural projects to give students a practical and contextually relevant education. While the school demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by growing coffee and other crops, it is sponsorships and donations that allow GLHS to give so many children from such deprived backgrounds a strong foundation for success in adult life. Not only does GLHS provide an education but it also ensures the children have access to clean water, daily meals and boarding accommodation.
Team Uganda visit every two years. In 2015 Project Coffee was born. An initiative led by Hull Collegiate School supported by local businesses and grant funding, to import Ugandan coffee to sell across the UK. All profits from coffee sales directly fund the sponsorship of children through education in the South West region of Uganda. We are celebrating the official launch of Safi Coffee on Tuesday 26 September. Everyone is welcome and entry is FREE. We need to know numbers for catering purposes so if you would like to come, please click here to book your free ticket.
